There are numerous ways to purify water when you believe the quality of the water where you are travelling may be not be drinking level. Chlorine and iodine used to be the market leaders. However since 2008 the European Union banned Iodine from sale as a water purification method due to no company being able to pay for the licence. So a new chemical treatment has been developed called Chlorine Dioxide which is now recognised as the best performing system for treating water.
